Day 111: The Body

215:11-217:5

If man is governed by the law of divine Mind, his body is in submission to everlasting Life and Truth and Love.

Day 110: Senses of Soul

213:16-215:10

Neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses.

Day 109: Footsteps

211:7-213:15

Sympathy with error should disappear.

Day 108: Soul?

209:5-211:6

Soul has always been one of the tricky synonyms of God to me. So much so that when Mary Baker Eddy uses the word, it sticks out to me. Generally, I know what she means with the following, but how do you apply the specific term Soul to it? In other words, how does this specific attribute clarify the passage:

Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man…

Day 107: Turning a corner

207:8-209:4

In my opinion, the book has turned a corner from introductory material to the meat of the theology. If you have made it this far, put your thinking cap on and pay close attention to what Mary Baker Eddy says. She has some real gems hidden in the text.

I pulled some ideas from the reading.

We must learn that evil is the awful deception and unreality of existence.

The original wording for this next one is:

The spiritual reality is the scientific fact in all things.

But I rewrote it. Does it make it clearer or change its meaning?

The scientific fact is the spiritual reality in all things.

Grabbed the core idea and removed the other words:

Error of belief = embracing sin, sickness, and death

I don’t really think most people embrace sin, sickness, and death but they embrace the road that took them there.

It is the mortal belief which makes the body discordant and diseased in proportion as ignorance, fear, or human will governs mortals.

Of those three, ignorance, fear, and human will, the last is most often the culprit.

Day 106: Specific Guidance

205:7-207:7

Day 95’s reading is about treatment (or thought that make up a healing treatment). Today’s reading is about specific guidance for our own actions, thoughts, and lives.

I’ve copied the text of these two pages and keep them on my mobile phone with me at all times.

I would love to know what pages have you marked as ***important and why?

Day 105:

203:7-205:6

I don’t think God is hidden from humanity. I think he is the elephant in the room.

Day 104: Disrobe Error

201-203:6

We cannot fill vessels already full. They must first be emptied. Let us disrobe error. Then, when the winds of God blow, we shall not hug our tatters close about us.

Day 103: Influence on the Body

198:23-200:29

Mortals develop their own bodies or make them sick, according as they influence them through mortal mind. To know whether this development is produced consciously or unconsciously, is of less importance than a knowledge of the fact.

Day 102: Careful what you think

196:11-198:22

The less that is said of physical structure and laws, and the more that is thought and said about moral and spiritual law, the higher will be the standard of living and the farther mortals will be removed from imbecility or disease.

Day 101: A case for Invention

194:6-196:10

Observation, invention, study, and original thought are expansive and should promote the growth of mortal mind out of itself, out of all that is mortal.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Day 100: Human will and opinion

192:4-194:5

This chapter’s title is Physiology, but I always just think of it as the body. The chapter flows from the body –> materiality –> human thought –> human will\opinion.

In Science, you can have no power opposed to God, and the physical senses must give up their false testimony.

Whatever holds human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.

Day 99: The Brain

190:1-192:3

The brain can give no idea of God's man. It can take no cognizance of Mind. Matter is not the organ of infinite Mind.

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Day 98: Seen and the unseen

188:3-189:32

Sickness is a growth of error, springing from mortal ignorance or fear.

…mortals should no more deny the power of Christian Science to establish harmony and to explain the effect of mortal mind on the body, though the cause be unseen, than they should deny the existence of the sunlight when the orb of day disappears, or doubt that the sun will reappear.

Day 97:

186:11-188:2

The divine Mind includes all action and volition, and man in Science is governed by this Mind.

2011

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Day 96: False Belief

184:16-186:10

Controlled by the divine intelligence, man is harmonious and eternal. Whatever is governed by a false belief is discordant and mortal. We say man suffers from the effects of cold, heat, fatigue. This is human belief, not the truth of being, for matter cannot suffer. Mortal mind alone suffers,--not because a law of matter has been transgressed, but because a law of this so-called mind has been disobeyed. I have demonstrated this as a rule of divine Science by destroying the delusion of suffering from what is termed a fatally broken physical law.

Day 95: The Treatment

182:18-184:15

These two pages are crucial to demonstrating Christian Science. Read them any time you are working through a challenge.

Day 94: Government & Belief

180:25-182:17

When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible.

Matter, which can neither suffer nor enjoy, has no partnership with pain and pleasure, but mortal belief has such a partnership.

Day 93:

178:28-180:24

In the quote below, Mary Baker Eddy is referring to doctors but the same could be said of anyone who deals without other people, which is all of us:

Instead of furnishing thought with fear, they should try to correct this turbulent element of moral mind by the influence of divine Love which casteth out fear.

2010

Sunday, April 10, 2011

Day 92:

176:21-178:27

Mortal mind and body are one. Neither exists without the other, and both must be destroyed by immortal Mind.

2010

Day 91: Mind & Body

174:22-176:20

When the mechanism of the human mind gives place to the divine Mind, selfishness, and sin, disease, and death, will lose their foothold.

2010

Friday, April 8, 2011

Day 90: The footsteps of Thought

172:23 - 174:21

The footsteps of thought, rising above material standpoints, are slow, and portend a long night to the traveller; but the angels of His presence--the spiritual intuitions that tell us when "the night is far spent, the day is at hand"--are our guardians in the gloom. Whoever opens the way in Christian Science is a pilgrim and stranger, marking out the path for generations yet unborn.

Day 89: The Fundamental Error

170:22 - 172:22

The so-called laws of matter are nothing but false beliefs that intelligence and life are present where Mind is not. These false beliefs are the procuring cause of all sin and disease. The opposite truth, that intelligence and life are spiritual, never material, destroys sin, sickness, and death.

The fundamental error lies in the supposition that man is a material outgrowth and that the cognizance of good or evil, which he has through the bodily senses, constitutes his happiness or misery.

Day 88: Action

168:30 - 170:21

There can be no healing except by this Mind, however much we trust a drug or any other means towards which human faith or endeavor is directed.

Only the action of Truth, Life, and Love can give harmony.

The demands of Truth are spiritual, and reach the body through Mind.

Day 87: Instructional notes for Health

167:1 - 168:29

We apprehend Life in divine Science only as we live above corporeal sense and correct it. Our proportionate admission of the claims of good or of evil determines the harmony of our existence,--our health, our longevity, and our Christianity.

Again, an error in the premise must appear in the conclusion. To have one God and avail yourself of the power of Spirit, you must love God supremely.

The scientific government of the body must be attained through the divine Mind. It is impossible to gain control over the body in any other way. On this fundamental point, timid conservatism is absolutely inadmissible. Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized.

Disease being a belief, a latent illusion of mortal mind, the sensation would not appear if the error of belief was met and destroyed by truth.

Day 86: Physiology

165-166:32

I didn’t want to focus too much on the exact problems but instead remember the general line of thought so I reshaped this sentence to allow me to stick in any problems:

You say that ___, ___, and ____ cause distressed stomachs and aching heads. Then you consult your brain in order to remember what has hurt you, when your remedy lies in forgetting the whole think, for matter has no sensation of its own, and the human mind is all that can produce pain.

Day 85: Medical Quotes

162:12 - 164:29

I loved all the quotes in this reading. They made me smile.

Day 84: Agreement

160:9 - 162:11

The physician agrees with his "adversary quickly," but upon different terms than does the metaphysician; for the matter-physician agrees with the disease, while the metaphysician agrees only with health and challenges disease.
