The 2 Books
In this blog, I will use two books. The first is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (ISBN 0-87952-259-3). The second is Reading in a Year - Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: A Daily Journal (ISBN 978-0879523008).
The first is the textbook of the Christian Science religion and is the single and only text for the theology. There are other books about the religion but none sit beside or precede this book. It is publicly available on the web, at local bookstores and in Christian Science Reading Rooms. The cost is around $10 for the edition I am using. The second book is meant as an aid to make reading the 700 pages easier by breaking the material into manageable daily sections. The second book provides the citation reference (not the actual passage) and space to keep notes - hence a journal.
Along with these two books, there are a few other books I have on my desk. The first is the dictionary because there are some words in Science and Health that are beyond me or my have more than one meaning. Another book is the King James version of the Bible containing both Old and New Testaments. I also use the New International version, in case I get bogged down in King James. Another book is the Concordance to the Writings of Mary Baker Eddy.
Why read Science and Health in 1 Year?
I know this question will come up. People will want to know if I have some hidden purpose - what's my game. There is no advertising on this site because I don't care about making money from this. My actual name isn't here because my spiritual interest has always been a private matter. I'm not interested in recruiting for the religion. There isn't a chart on God's fridge with a gold star by my name for each new person that reads this blog.
This is just me trying to read a book and sharing the experience. I think it is a great book and I'm amazed how often a passage or sentence comes back to me when I struggling with something in my life. The book is about how to heal. And that is exactly what I expect to happen.
