Day 257: Genesis i.26-27

515:11-517:24

As the reflection of yourself appears in the mirror, so you, being spiritual, are the reflection of God. The substance, Life, intelligence, Truth, and Love, which constitute Deity, are reflected by His creation; and when we subordinate the false testimony of the corporeal senses to the facts of Science, we shall see this true likeness and reflection everywhere.

Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God.

The life-giving quality of Mind is Spirit, not matter.

Even eternity can never reveal the whole of God, since there is no limit to infinitude or to its reflections.

Day 182: Know Yourself

357:7-359:17

you must change the human concept of life, and must at length know yourself spiritually and scientifically

Day 158: Going Astray

307:31-309:32

If these children should go astray, and forget that Life is God, good, and that good is not in elements which are not spiritual,--thus losing the divine power which heals the sick and sinning,--they were to be brought back through great tribulation, to be renamed in Christian Science and led to deny material sense, or mind in matter, even as the gospel teaches.

Day 128: Happiness

249:12-251:27

Mortal thoughts chase one another like snowflakes, and drift to the ground.

happiness is never the sport of circumstance.

Organization and time have nothing to do with Life.

Note: I took liberty of rewriting the second quote to be more to the point that I read from it.

Day 126: Agelessness

245:32-247:9

Man is by no means a material germ rising from the imperfect and endeavoring to reach Spirit above his origin.

Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight.

Each succeeding year unfolds wisdom, beauty, and holiness.

Day 43: Life as God

78:1-80:5

Mary Baker Eddy uses the above phrase working through an argument that people shouldn’t be warned against death but I took it as just a single idea – Life as God. I think I have only scratched at my own understanding of this and need to work more on it.

Day 41:

74:3-76:5

This reading is about why is it impossible for the dead to communicate with the living. I understand two material, erroneous beliefs are in different states of belief and can not commune. I understand it logically.

My interest is in the something different. What if I could drop the belief of materiality, and pray? I call it meditation but I’m sure other people have other names for it. Being in the world but not of it – sort of. I wonder how Mary Baker Eddy would feel about that. I think of it as highly spiritual and very much about quieting the internal chatter in my thought so that I can be still and listen to God. But I can also see how it might appear either a material barrier or an illusionary change of conscience.

What do you think?

Day 259: Divine Infinite Calculus

519:22-521:17

Today’s readings continue the idea of a currently unknowable infinity:

Human language can repeat only an infinitesimal part of what exists.

The numerals of infinity, called seven days, can never be reckoned according to the calendar of time. These days will appear as mortality disappears, and they will reveal eternity, newness of Life, in which all sense of error forever disappears and thought accepts the divine infinite calculus.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea that there is so much to God and spirituality, that I won’t grasp it all. In so many ways, that’s not what organized religion is about: explaining Life. To tell the reader there is just too much for you to get at this time (that’s what I fell Mary Baker Eddy is saying), is realistic and pragmatic. It also puts the wonder back in the moment of reading Genesis.

Day 207: Life

408:28-410:21

In this reading, everlasting life is defined as:

a present knowledge of God and himself [Jesus], – the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life.

So more work for me in controlling my thought. Then:

the stronger never yields to the weaker, except through fear or choice

This is going to be one of my favorite quotes from the book for now. Is this original to MBE or is she paraphrasing?

Day 191: Disease

377-378:32

I’m going to take three quotes from this reading and rearrange them with no disrespect meant. For me, it just made better sense:

God never endowed matter with power to disable Life or to chill harmony with a long and cold night of discord.

The cause of all so-called disease is mental, a mortal, a mortal fear, a mistaken belief or conviction of the necessity and power of ill-health; also a fear that Mind is helpless to defend the life of man and incompetent to control it.

Remove the leading error or governing fear of this lower so-called mind, and you remove the cause of all disease as well as the morbid or exciting action of any organ.
