On my recent trip to the Bible Belt of America, we discussed beliefs of Heaven and Hell. I wasn’t as eloquent as Mary Baker Eddy in the above quote – wish I had been.
Mortal thoughts chase one another like snowflakes, and drift to the ground.
happiness is never the sport of circumstance.
Organization and time have nothing to do with Life.
Note: I took liberty of rewriting the second quote to be more to the point that I read from it.
I believe there are points in this chapter that would benefit any relationship, even a friendship or family relation. Aside from the specific marital points, Mary Baker Eddy is talking about how to sustain any relationship. She puts a good prerequisite on relationships that I use today:
A mutual understanding should exist before this union and continue ever after, for deception is fatal to happiness.
The suppositions that sin is pardoned while unforsaken, that happiness can be genuine in the midst of sin, that the so-called death of the body frees from sin, and that God's pardon is aught but the destruction of sin,--these are grave mistakes.The part that stood out to me was genuine happiness in the midst of sin. That is something I need to work on.
