Day 161: Jesus & the Jews

314:10-316:11

[the Jews’] material views were the parents of their wicked deeds

He knew of but one Mind and laid no claim to any other. He knew that the Ego was Mind instead of body and that matter, sin, and evil were not Mind;

Day 72: Christianity Explained

135:21-138:16

This reading explains Christian Science from a historical perspective. Jesus had to eventually explain it:

Christianity … [is] the demonstration of divine Love casting out error and healing the sick, not merely in the name of Christ, or Truth but in demonstration of Truth, as must be the case in the cycles of divine light.

He asked his disciples who or what he was? Simon replied:

Thou are the Christ, the Son of the living God!

His method for healing:

He showed that diseases were cast out neither by corporeality, by materia medica, nor by hygiene, but by the divine Spirit, casting out the errors of mortal mind.

Day 269: Moral Chemicalization

538:23-540:24

I think it is an interesting point that this section becomes a comparison of Cain to Jesus. Mary Baker Eddy doesn’t do it out right, she just ignores Cain, now born, altogether. And only discusses Jesus. That’s really her whole point is to not give the material one second of thought, but only the spiritual.

Point #1

In moral chemicalization, when the symptoms of evil, illusion, are aggravated, we may think in our ignorance that the Lord hath wrought an evil, but we ought to know that God’s law uncovers so-called sin and its effects, only that Truth may annihilate all sense of evil and all power to sin.

This is a good point to remember in Christian Science because while I am in the chemicalization, I may not know what sin is being uncovered. I need to remember I am passing through a chemicalization when the worst of it is upon me and not in an endless mortal situation.

Point #2

The purpose of the Hebrew allegory, representing error as assuming a divine character, is to teach mortals never to believe a lie.

I think, for me, the issue is to remember what the lie is. The little lies are easy to see through. But the one big lie is not.

Day 178: The life-link connection

349:13-351:7

I marked several things in this reading but I’m only going to cover two. Please read this section for yourself several times. There are lots of grains of thought here.

…that life-link forming the connection through which the real reaches the unreal, Soul rebukes sense, and Truth destroys error.

Jesus was the life-link or the original demonstration. There were lots of demonstrations, but this was God’s demonstration to us. I never thought of Jesus that way before, as a CS demonstration.

When we lose faith in God’s power to heal, we distrust the divine Principle which demonstrates Christian Science, and then we cannot heal the sick.

I take this as a guide to check my own thinking and examine the results of my demonstration – to weigh my faith.
